Our last Padres game of the season!

We went to the Padres game Saturday night, our last one this season. Despite getting our trashed kicked by the Rockies, we managed to have a pretty good time. My old boss, Mike, is kind enough to let us use his private suite and it's such a fun experience. We're totally spoiled, we don't even like going to the games with regular tickets anymore. It's just cool that there's something that we all like to do together. We're all pretty big Padres fans (Lily included) and Michael is a good sport and goes along for the ride. Connor was a bit disappointed because Matt Holliday wasn't playing and he had really been looking forward to seeing him. For some reason, the kid absolutely loves Matt Holliday. Lily was apparently exhausted and fell asleep on Darrin, which led to the worst (and best kind of) moment of the night....

Darrin and Connor are incapable of going to a Padres game without having some frozen yogurt. But, as I said above, Lily had fallen asleep on Darrin and couldn't really get up. So, I acquiesed and went to get the stinking fro-yo. Lo and behold, what should happen in that 5 minutes that I'm gone? Any of you who know me can probably guess...Khalil Greene hit a home run!!!! Can you believe my luck? I'm pretty sure I'm Khalil's biggest fan in the known universe and I miss his home run! Lily was kind of bummed that she missed it too. She loves Khalil (she's dressing up as Khalil for Halloween). On the way home she was telling us how much Khalil wanted to hit a home run for her, but she fell asleep and he hit it "about" (without) her. She almost sounded upset with him. Anyways, here are some cute highlights of the evening. If you love us you'll add some extra prayers for the Padres to your agenda this week (some serious losses for the Diamondbacks, Phillies and Rockies would not be amiss either)! Love ya all-DeEtte

Beckham she's NOT!

Okay, so maybe Lily's not going the be the pro soccer player we had hoped for...she loves going to soccer, she loves wearing the shin guards and the cleats, she loves kicking the ball around and running during practice, but she will absolutely not take part in the actual soccer game. Literally, at one point during the game she was standing there twirling her ponytail with her fingers (I wasn't quick enough on the draw to snap a picture of that). She would occasionally jump up and down in place, but other than that she would only move if Coach Drew was holding her hand. Luckily Coach Drew is a nice guy who didn't seem to mind dragging Lily up and down the field with him. On a kind of separate note, Lily got into an argument with me earlier this week because she was insistent that Coach Drew was a girl because "she wears earrings like a girl". It was kind of hard to argue with her reasoning, but after a rigorous day of debate I finally convinced Lily that Coach Drew was indeed a boy. I'm glad to see that my Lily has such conservative views on gender identity. We're so proud. I just hope she doesn't repeat her theory to Coach Drew.

Lily's soccer team. She couldn't be happier to be there...as long as she's not actually required to play soccer.

I think this is when I yelled at Lily to kick the ball and she pretended she couldn't hear me, classic.

Faithful Coach Drew going above and beyond the call of duty.

our crazy week

Sorry it's taken so long to post again. I'll try to get better, I swear.

What a week we've had! I feel like I've been busy every second of every day and still gotten nothing done. I'm sure most of you can sympathize. I'm still feeling a little tired, and it takes nearly nothing to wear me out big time. I run one errand and I'm down for the rest of the afternnon. It's incredibly frustrating because it's not like life just stopped when I had surgery. There's still things that need to be done and I can't really afford to feel tired all the time. But I do think it's getting better day by day. I can start doing mild exercise tomorrow (Monday) and I'm so excited to reconnect with the treadmill, I've missed it so!

The kids were busy busy busy this week. Lily started preschool on Tuesday. She's going twice a week for 3 hours to a preschool that is run out of "Miss Paula's" house. There are a few kids from our ward that go there, a couple from our old ward, and a friend from Lily's dance class. On the first day, she froze on the curb outside and refused to move an inch. Then Miss Paula approached her and coaxed her inside to show her how to put her sticker on her name on the attendance chart. At this point, I was following behind and Lily turned around and declared that she didn't need any help and I could leave. When I continued to follow, she basically ordered me to go! She's such a silly thing. One moment she's scared to death and the next moment she's little Miss Independent. She's having a good time at preschool and I'll admit it's nice to have those 6 hours a week all to my lonesome (not that I get to do anything fun or relaxing). Lily also started soccer on Saturday. Fortunately, one of her friends from dance (Mary) is on her team so they got to partner up a lot. They spent most of the 1 hour, just dribbling up and down the field and trying to knock cones over, but man they had so much fun! She was so tired. They're supposed to have a little "game" against another team for the last 10 minutes and she just wasn't having it. So we left at that point. Hopefully she'll make it to the game next week.

Connor started piano this week. He really likes it so far (everybody cross your fingers that it stays that way). He looks forward to practicing every day and is always excited to have us listen to him play. We had decided that once he started taking piano, he wouldn't be allowed to quit, even if he begged us. That's why we waited so long to start him in it. So please just say some prayers that he continues to enjoy it, or he's gonna be one miserable kid. On a super fun note, when Lily and I went to pick Connor up from his lesson, a waste management truck backed into my car and completely shattered the back window! I seriously can't catch a break. Fortunately nobody was hurt (he missed Lily's door by a couple feet, thank goodness), but my car isn't looking so great. It's at the auto body shop and they have to replace the entire back quarter panel and the whole back gate as well. So we're in a rental for at least a couple of weeks, fun! But it's still better than having to find an entired new car (like last time, hehehe). I'm honestly considering just selling my car and hiring a driving service for myself, I think I'm some kind of bad luck charm in automobiles. On a happier note, it wasn't my fault so my rates aren't going up, silver lining. I'm going to try to go an entire 6 months without getting in another accident!

I hope everybody's doing well. I miss and love you all so much. Talk to ya later.

Lily's first day of preschool, isn't she so dang cute?!

Connor practicing piano. Look how intense he is, I love it!

Lily dribbling the ball like a pro!

Lily and Mary kicking the ball back and forth. Check out Lily's side swipe kick action. Can you tell she has an older brother that plays soccer?

Uncle Michael playing horsie. What a sport.
